I’m taking a holiday for the next two weeks and won’t have convenient Internet access, so Inspiring Science will be quiet for a little while. Thanks to everyone who’s been reading & commenting; it’s been fun writing for you and watching the blog grow! Enjoy August!

What was this “Free Palestine” t-shirt all about? I thought a scientific conference is not a place for bold political claims but for scientific exchange. I found it rather unpleasant to be confronted with such bogus idiocy. Maybe next time you should join a “Free Gaza” boat trip rather than being on a conference.
I thought science (and scientific conferences) was about open expression and rational debate, not dress codes and censorship. If my shirt bothered you (or if you think the Palestinians shouldn’t be free), you could have told me so in person — we could have discussed it and maybe learned something from each other.
It’s also interesting that you objected to my “Free Palestine” shirt but not the one about the Egyptian protests. Do you object to political claims or just claims you disagree with?
